FAQ About Hypnotherapy

So, What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that everybody experiences at least twice a day. Just before we go to sleep at night (when we are half awake and half asleep) and just before waking up in the morning are hypnotic states (also known as trance states).

If you have ever been so absorbed when you are reading in a book that you don't hear someone calling your name, then this is also a hypnotic state. It normally means that you are in a state of focused relaxation.

What’s the Difference Between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is the naturally occurring state you enter a few times a day. It is that slightly altered state of consciousness or focused relaxation. Hypnotherapy is when you work together with a hypnotherapist and use hypnosis to achieve a therapeutic outcome that benefits you.

How Does the Hypnotherapist Do This For Us?
By making suggestions of relaxation, and using other hypnotic techniques the hypnotherapist can guide you into a state of focused relaxation.

What Happens Then?
During this hypnotic state of focused relaxation the hypnotherapist can speak more easily to our unconscious mind, which is more responsive to positive suggestions in a relaxed state.

What Sort of Suggestions Does the Hypnotherapist Make?
The hypnotherapist and you agree together on the goal that you are working towards and the hypnotherapist will use positive suggestions that help you achieve your goal.

What Sort of Things Can I Use Hypnotherapy For?

All sorts of things. Our unconscious mind is where we store our patterns and behaviours that we have learned, so we can use hypnotherapy to change old patterns and behaviours that we no longer need. Some examples are:

-    Stopping smoking
-    Eating patterns
-    Phobias and fears
-    Improving self confidence
-    Improving memory and concentration

These are just a few examples of what hypnotherapy can be used for.
There are many more – if you have a question about something you want to work with then please email me on doug@hypnotherapysolutionslondon.com

Will I Be Asleep During the Session?
Probably not. Your eyes will be closed and you will be relaxed, but aware of what is happening around you. If you do fall asleep, the important thing to remember is that your unconscious mind remembers everything.

Will the Hypnotherapist Have Control Over Me?
Definitely not. You work together as a team to achieve your goals and objectives. A good example of how hypnosis works is to imagine that you are driving a car together. You are driving and the hypnotherapist is sitting in the passenger seat with a map and making suggestions about which way to go. You are still in control about whether your turn left or right. You may not get to where you want to go as quickly if you don’t listen to the therapist but they cannot make you do anything you don’t want to do.

Can I Talk In Hypnosis?
Yes, sometimes this is a very helpful part of the process and the hypnotherapist may encourage you to answer questions. This is not always the case and depends on what you are working on with the hypnotherapist.

Will I Say Something Personal in Hypnosis?

It is very unlikely you will say anything you don’t want to. Always remember that a good hypnotherapist belongs to a regulatory body and thus is bound by a strict code of conduct that means they will keep all information form you strictly private.

How Long Does a Session Last?

A first session will usually last 1.5 hours.
Subsequent sessions are about 1 hour.

So, Does Hypnotherapy Actually Work?
Yes, for many people world-wide. Hypnotherapy is becoming increasingly recognised in the medical world and all walks of life.

Can I Try It For Free?
You can’t have a free session, but if you sign up for my newsletter at www.dougbuckingham.co.uk   then I will send you a free relaxation mp3 recording and you can try this. It doesn’t give you any specific therapeutic outcome, but it is designed to help you relax?
